Melbourne's first skyscraper
Unveiling the history of Melbourne’s first skyscraper through documentary storytelling for Open House Melbourne 2021.
THE CHALLENGE
To the unknowing eye, 1 Nicholson Street is just another building on the edge of Melbourne’s CBD – but in reality, it has great significance to both the city’s history and Charter Hall’s Office portfolio. Our challenge was to bring awareness to the building’s significance.
THE SOLUTION
We collaborated with Open House Melbourne and Melbourne-based historians to develop a 13 minute documentary about 1 Nicholson Street – Melbourne’s first skyscraper. This was done using a mix of archive and new footage to showcase the building and its significance and distributed via Open House’s channels.
The Results
Over 1,000 people tuned in to the exclusive screening during Open House Melbourne 2021, and the asset has since been used as a key drawcard for current and new tenants under Charter Hall’s stewardship. But importantly the film was well received by Charter Hall’s internal team, evoking a sense of pride for the work the funds manager does, and its impact on culture.
